Francis Lewis High School Reviews

over crowded but it works, and teachers all full of energy

I love Francis Lewis High School because there are various school activities and classes you can take . I learn more and it is an environment where I am not easily distracted.

this school is great my daughter graduated with honors. im glad she got accepted there.

Francis Lewis is the best school ever i have to take a bus for three hours to get there and back, and it is the best because of the jrotc program and if it wasn't for that program and the school that keeps it there i probably wouldn't come

The JROTC program is one of the best, if not the best, on the east coast. The school is also known for it's overcrowdedness which isn't a joy. The teachers and the many foreign languages at the school make up for the extremely crowded hallways :]

Francis Lewis High School has an A+ in many reviews. We are one of the last high schools with a Marching Band. Our school has one of the largest Key Clubs. We have the longest day schedule.

It' is the most diverse school. We hear and offer the most language courses.

you get to meet all types of people. The school is very diverse and there is always something for everyone to do.

The school has an inspirational environment for all the students. A diversity of programs and a great choices for everybody who wishes to develop in any category.

We all love Francis LEwis High School. We have the best clubs and teams! Most important, our teachers are great!!

its awesome cus of the ppl that go there =) nd the people who create that safe encouraging environment for all of us.

I really love Francis Lewis, the teachers are great and the community there is even better, even though the school is really crowded, it just gives me more of an opportunity to make more friends.

Franny Lew is so diverse i love the people here, teachers are great and the environment is welcoming.

Its the best ! The teachers are very nice and intelligent, help is offered Every time you need it and the students are encourage to try new things and take on harder tasks.

The school had great teachers and i spent a lot of great times there!

It takes five minutes to walk to the next room, because it's so crowded; but it makes a great excuse for being late!

the activities at Lewis are endless. there's always something going on; theres never a dull moment. The academics are great, with everything from advanced placement to college now. The aid needed for everything related to college, and also friendly guidance is always readly avaliable. Frabcis Lewis is #1

Our school has the smartest people crowded into one group and not so smart people meshed into another group. We have many brilliant people in our school, including teachers and students. Our wide variety of activities, clubs, and sports helps students develop skills in other areas, as well as the classic subjects. The diversity of the school allows students to mix and mingle with different types of people and helps them with communicating with others. Francis Lewis is great! Although it is overcrowded, the diversity of the students helps us learn about new cultures and beliefs.

Cuz its overcrowded. I like being around ppl and the ppl u meet are interesting. Very diverse and great education, when you take advantage of it. Some teachers are crazy but who doesnt like one once in awhile? Also the students are okay, again all kind. Some kinda crazy and others dont talk at all.

Despite the fact that the school is severely packed, Francis Lewis miraculously finds a way to not only function, but succeed as well. The teachers are beyond amazing & provide the maximum amount of help they can give to every individual student, even in a classroom of thirty-four. I love high school because of Francis Lewis. If I went to any other high school, I doubt I would even enjoy going to school. Lewis definitely deserves the funding.

because the teachers care about the students and do what ever it takes to help them.

FLHS functions very well with the many students they have. Teachers and classes are both great.

My school is great! love all the extra curriculars, but lacking sufficent funds

I love Francis Lewis because it has great teachers and recommendable courses.

Well, we got most of the AP courses at our school, and our school is known for its great diversity. The crowded population never becomes a problem for our school, and yet we even do better under the great demographic pressure.

It's awesome. Soooooo many extracurricular activities, and many academic achievements.

Francis Lewis High School is an amazing place. Francis Lewis provides a safe and welcoming environment for students to learn. It is a diverse school with many extracurricular activies and an award-winning JROTC drill team. The teachers are passionate about the subjects they teach and are always there to lend a helping hand.

Lewis is a great school because of all the diversity due to an extremely large population.

Francis Lewis has such a large population yet it is able to cater to it's students needs with such detail. With such a diverse environment it is easy to get lost within the public school system here yet it's students are devoted to standing out. Sometimes the students want to do things that need more funding but generally cannot because we do not have the money. Our school loves to have school wide events like pep rallys, olympic challenges, and award ceremonies however it's hard to hold events for 4,500 kids. Despite the incredible size of the student body, my experience at Francis Lewis, so far has been amazing because I have been able to work and actually see the benefits of my labor..I just want to see things get better in the sense of actual activites and things like school merchandise.

I am currently an alumni from FLHS of 2008 and I believe FLHS deserves this money. FLHS is an unappreciated high school because its status as not being a specialized high school or because it is not highly ranked enough like Townsend Harris. As the news reported, FLHS is one of the most crowded high schools in Queens and has extended their schedules to accommodate for their large number of students. Teachers, counselors and other staff members have to regulate this school for over 4000 kids and they deserve as much help as they can get. FLHS was already overcrowded and the addition of $20,000 can allow for extensions of buildings to fit more students. Also, FLHS is also known for its top JROTC in the country, having a good number of its athletics teams place in citywide competitions, and has strong focus on promoting the arts, like music, theater and art. By receiving such a large amount of money, FLHS can further improve upon its status by providing more transportation for its sports teams, more budgeting for its education in the arts, and more space for the large number of students coming in each year. Why grant money to high schools that are already have a great deal of money and are already doing well? FLHS should be recognized as the school to win for the overwhelming problems it faces and the continuous dedication the faculty to has for their students, despite its lack of budgeting and overly large student population.

Francis Lewis HS is a school that goes out their way to help its students succeed in the classroom, offering tutoring for all subjects and a long list of extracurricular activities to keep the students busy.

Francis Lewis is a great high school that has been hidden behind other known schools. For one year, it had been the most crowded high school in New York City. I sincerely believe many potential leaders have been arising and can arise from this special high school, because of its array range of activities and its aggressive and supportive staffs. Not only is the ROTC program in this school nationally recognized and had won many years of awards and honors but the sports teams had also slowly make their way up to the top. I believe this school can use the money to its greatest potential. With the diversity of the student population that exists in this school, there is no boundaries as to where the school will stop growing. -Alumni, Sr. President of '08

great school with great environment

It's a great school for extra-curricular activities, and academics. With over 5000 students the school still manages to be a great school in the neighborhood.

I spent some of the best years at this school, despite the fact that it was very overcrowded. I still received a top notch education that prepared me for college. With this money FLHS could do great things.

I love Francis Lewis because it is the best school in Queens and is the best academically and athletically. We are all a family at Francis Lewis.

Francis Lewis is a diverse school, where you are surrounded by staff and students that feel like family. I have thought of Lewis as a second home many times, and I was very heartbroken when I had to leave for college. Francis Lewis will always be home to me.

FLHS exemplifies making the best out of a bad situation. I love my high school, and I love my high school education. It operates like a college, which made the transition easier.

The school is community friendly. All my teachers were so helpful and considerate of us. I've had some of my best times at that high school. I'm glad i went there.

Though I graduated a year ago, those four years were the best years. The school has great activities for the students which keep them motivated which keeps classes alive. The extracurricular activities and the school events that annually return. The annual Pep Rally, Talent Show, Winter Concert, Olympic Challenge and the School Play, all these events keep the school alive. The students, parents and faculty make the school not the building itself. Attending a school that was built for 1200 but over 4500 students attend this great school. The school deserves the money to keep these events alive and especially keep the students motivated.

Francis Lewis HS has some of the best athletics teams in the city! It's extremely diverse! It has dedicated teachers! I personally know a fellow student from my graduating class who currently attends Harvard!

The people who make the school a great time for students who study there and everything else too!

Francis Lewis is the best high school in Queens. Even if we don't win this contest i will still consider this one of the best school in Queens! we have the best e have the best crowded hallways, teachers, programs, activities and the number one jrotc program!! go Lewis:d

i love the diversity that the school has, you meet tons of new people from all over the world, and has the best academic programs which most of them are interesting and fun. :Go! franny lew :)

They have the best classes. You seriously can find any type of academic and non-academic course in there! And the teachers really care

FLHS is the public school in nyc which has the biggest population. i really like my hs because most teachers are so kind and friendly.

our school, is diverse, with courses for everyone to enjoy. languages, music, jrotc, athletic teams and anything that fits your taste. i love Francis Lewis high school. proud to be a student :).

Francis Lewis is place where people from all ethnic groups come together to learn someting new everyday. The exposure to so many different cultures and religons has opened my eyes to the world. I have so many friends that I love so much, and even though the school is crowded, everyone has the out most respect. That is one of the reasons I love Francis Lewis.

Francis Lewis is filled with enthusiasm and happiness in every room. It's a place where all the students come together and become a community. We have such a diverse student population that makes us unique in every way. When you come in as a freshman and graduate as a senior, you'll be a new person. Francis Lewis change lives, one student at a time.

I graduated from Francis Lewis High School last year, and I look back at the school, and reminisce about how amazing it was. Full of great people, teachers, and possibilities. The school made me proficient in Japanese, and well rounded for my college years. I'm in debt to Francis Lewis, and I know that no other school is like it!

i am a freshman at francis lewis and i have to say it is an incredible school. the programs are some of the best, the school is number 1 in so many things, debate, law, math, science, it to hard to keep up. first year is a hands on experience ill never forget it. i have to admit at first i thought i would hate it because i wanted to go to townsend harris but move over townsend this school is awesome!

I'm currently going into my junior year at Francis Lewis High School and I find it to be a very good school. It has many opportunities for any kind of career choice you may have. It will help you to succecedd in any way possiable. The school has ajusted well to its overcrowdedness. Its a very safe school with a nice environment and its learning environment is great. Some teachers there are the best teachers I've seen in all my years of going to school.

I am now a junior in Francis Lewis High School and i believe it is an outstanding school. The teachers cannot be any better and the clubs and programs offered are filled with diversity, fun and great lessons. I do not believe that it is overcrowded to an extent that we cannot navigate through classes. I must admit every day you meet more and more people but isn't that preparing us into a world of good communication techniques. This is a school of excellence where everyone is treated equal. Everyone must understand that good and bad people exist everywhere so it is understandable to run into trouble once in a while but if a student starts classes of honors and high academic averages fights between students is zero percent from happening. I guess I'm just saying this to give parents the real idea of what my school is all about:D PERFECT!

My daughter is a sophomore this year and so far we don't have any serious complaints. No doubt the school is overcrowded (but then so is almost every good public school in NYC) but the school has good honors classes and special programs (eg. the Maths & Science Research Program which helps to prepare students for college research work).

My daughter attended this school for 4 years and is now in college. My daughter hated it there. The only thing she liked about it was Ms. Bernstein who guided her and encouraged her through her 4 years.

My child is a freshman at francis lewis high school and he hates it there, he says the environment is the worst he had seen, some of the teachers may be nice, however the children are the worst, my son cannot wat untill he leaves this school.

My child is currently a freshman in francis lewis high school. She enjoys the atmosphere at the school. So many are complaining of the overcrowding which I do not see when I visit. Ever wonder why so many children attend this school? Maybe because it is a good school. The jrotc program is a wonderful program. The adult instructors are phenomenal with the children and they promote education, leadership, positivity, respect, and education. Francis lewis is a wonderful choice for a parent in regards to their child. There are going to be children cutting in all schools, for the most part the children go to class whether they enjoy it or not. My daughter has explained she has a class that to her is boring but because of her involvement in jrotc she knows she has to go to stay active with jrotc. Good.

Francis Lewis High School is a great school, but there is a serious problem with overcrowding and a lot of students there do not want to learn and just hang out with their friends which is distractive. P.S. I am a sophomore at the school.

Francis Lewis is a school where it either can be a really good experience or a really bad experience. For me it has been particularly bad but only because of the choices i had made. Blame should not just be tossed around to surrounding figures. They might at most be partial to blame but the experience ultimately depends on the choices people make. They can decide to either cut school and choose not to do it and from there everything goes downhill. However they also have the choice to go to class, to do well. The reason why the doors are open and you are free to leave Francis Lewis at any time is because I think in my opinion that the choice is ours. We have to ultimately decide. This school is either really amazing or really bad depending on what choices are made while here in francis lewis.

The quality of academic programs at Francis Lewis High School is excellent. I have never heard of another school with a 'Criminal Investigation' program. I was in this program and I enjoyed it very much. The teacher that created this program (Ms. Grady) is not at Francis Lewis High School anymore, but this pogram remains. Another great program is the AP social studies classes. They are excellent classes with an excellent teacher. Francis Lewis High School pushes their students to their academic best, and I believe that if parents continue to motivate their children like my parents did to me, they can help make 'Franny Lew' the best school in Queens, like Jeffrey Scherr, the principal says on the announcements every morning and afternoon, during 2nd and 9th period.

Great School with great teachers.

I have been pleased with the education provided by this school, although the atmoshpere is slowly changing and I think the school is headed for a wrong turn.

The Quality of academic programs are fine. The music, art and sports are o.k. but not the best. Not to much parent involvement.

I had went to francis Lewis from september '00 to June'04. The school is an overcrowded school with few teachers who actually care about their students and I did not graduate when i was supposed to due to lack of guidance. They had blamed it on me but this is not the situation because i now go to a smaller school in upstate New York and have a 90 average compared to my 58 average in francis lewis. i strongly advise not to send your child to this school i know many students who did not graduate because of the guidance department.

My daughter graduated in June of 2003. She came to FLHS in 1999 from a small private school (where everyone knew her name). We found FHLS to be incredibly responsive to all of us, teachers willing to listen & mentor and administration that would go out of their way to help solve problems. I also think that the college advisors were incredible, especially Mrs. Shumsey, who really helped us alot. She is now a sophomore @ SUNY - Buffalo. Carried 18 credits both sememsters of her 1st year & pulled a 3.4 GPA, in addition to working & participating in the social life of the school. I think her time @ FLHS taught her how to succeed in a larger environment, manage her time effectively, remember that teachers are also people (& have lives outside the classroom). For my money, if you are choosing a school, FLHS is the place to go.

Hi, Iam a Freshman going to my Sophomore year. So far I really like my school. It is a very active school. It is spacious and has the prograsm that i desire for my future education. The law program is magnificent, so I heard. I reccomend this school to many people. This school has a new field for all kinds of sports. Alot of programs. I just have to say this school is yhe best. I plan to stay here all 4 years. Personally, I would say Francis Lewis is a very good school.
