University High School Reviews

I've been a student at University High School for two years, and it's honestly a sub par excuse for 'acclaimed' learning institution. Our students may out-perform other Newark schools but we have very little intellectual competition. University will get you through to your senior year, and maybe you'll get into a satisfactory college. What other aspirations could a Newark student have? Not the best that New Jersey has to offer.

My daughter goes here and she love it. Everyday she comes home with good news.

My child graduated as an excellent student from University High School and turned out to be an amazing, well-rounded, community-minded and responsible person. I would recommend University to any parent.

I am an alumni of University High School and have been there from my freshman year. I can honestly say that the experience was terrific. It is a comfortable environment and and the teachers are always willing to work with their students. There is no reason why a student should fail with all the help thpprovipprovided

I am a senior at university throughout my previous year it has challenge me. I would recommend this school to anyone. Staffs are willing to help and this school have a big selection of honors and advance placement classes. At University you will always have fun and be challenged at the same time. Although you may recieve alot of homework and classwork it all pays off

I am currently a junior at UHS. I've been here since 7th grade. I've been watching this school grow in the hands of Roger Leon and plunge in the hands of Claude Bey. It is not the fault of our principal however, he just lacks the strength that Leon had to challenge most of the stubborn ignorance parading our corridors today. Majority of the teachers are great and they actually care. We have an awesome Math and English department. We are probably lacking in the Science department but we more than make up for it.

I am the proud parent of a sophomore. Thus far, the school is wonderful. My daughter has some struggles her freshman year, but that was to be expected. The curriculum is very challenging which makes for great learning. My decision to send her to University H.S. was the right choice. She will reep the benefits at graduation.

I love University! It's challenging and fun. The teachers are good. But the best part of my school is Mr. Leon. I dont know where I would be and where Unversity would be without him.

University provides a great learning environment because of the teacher's hard work and dedication. The principal,Roger Leon, has an anger problem and does not show any want to change it.This school would be much better without him.

I Love University. I am a Current Student and I think university high is a wonderful school. The teachers and staff are very nice and they get along with the students. Students even vibe with the janitors and security guards, as well as the lunch people. Mr. Leon is a great principal and all of the students love him and his sarcastic ways. I can't wait till i graduate and see what benifits i have being im from one of the best schools in newark......PHOENIX PRIDE

University High School is a wonderful school. I graduated in 2006 and am now at Rutgers University. Thanks to the wonderful guidance counselors that the school provide, I acquired plenty of scholarship offers and barely pay anything for school now. Thanks abundantly to every staff member especially the principals, Ms. Gironda, Mr. Corely, Ms. Barnes, and Ms. Hewitt.

This school has a challenging academic curriculum. It is a competitive atmosphere that promotes learning and community leadership.

i love this school i been there since the 7th & im happy i went where i did because i dont think i would get the things i did from this school

I believe that University is the best high school in Newark and I also believe that Mr. Leon has done great things for that school. But I have to agree with the other parent who said that the teachers at University don't care about the kids individually and that they are rude. I don't believe that this applies to all of the teachers there but I do thing that some teachers care more about the bottom line than care about the student's individual success. Saying that though I still believe that University and Roger Leon are the best and that great things come out of that school. There are some things that need to be changed but for the most part apart from a few egotistical staff members, the school is great. I love Mr. Nazario and Mr. Davis. They have helped my son so much.

I feel that unversity high school is a fine school. Great teachers and staff.

This school is the #1 in Newark as of 2005. However this is only because the principal uses scare tactics, and the teachers cheat. The teachers there do not care and are extremely rude to parents who are concerened about their child's grades. My daughter is in the 10th grade and I am plulling her out of there as soon as i can to go to a better school such as Scince where I feel as though she will challenged mentally and encourged to do well.

I believe University High School is a great school.I am a student at the school and I can say from my own point of view that it is a great experience to learn at the school. University is the best school with the highest test scores out of all Newark.

As a graduate from University High School, I believe that it gave me the knowledge that is needed in the real world...especially in the AP Courses that I had. Thank YOu Mrs. Gironda!

My daughter attends this school and she has exceled tremendously under the guidance of Mr. R. Leon & his staff.
